Hatchet 3 (2013) review (Decker Shado video)

Hatchet 3 was the film that was a horror in the Hatchet trilogy. It follows the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. The film stars Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow, as well as Rileah Vanderbilt as Misty.

The film's special effects are its greatest strengths. Hatchet 3 is a horror film that employs CG effects less than many others. Hatchet 3 has a lot of practical makeup effects and sets that result in some truly terrifying scenes throughout the film.

Kane Hodder is a standout among the cast and is a formidable villain. The dialogue feels like a 1980s slasher movie. It is witty and funny enough. There are some funny moments that stand out (blog post) in all the heart-wrenching scenes.

The budget for the film was restricted to just one million dollars. That means a lot of locations in the movie are repeated from previous films. One boat house is used twice and most of it feels recycled from previous films. Hatchet or Hatchet II may be able to recognize it as familiar, which can lead to the movie feeling too familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was an enjoyable series. I liked the gory thrills it provided as well as the engaging performances of its actors.
